Blantyre No More! Bullets, Ntopwa crash out Goshen Championship

It was a painful day for Blantyre based teams as Ntopwa Kukoma Queens and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women crashed out of the quarterfinals Goshen City Women’s Championship.

In an early kick-off, defending Champions Ntopwa Queens were humbled by Ascent Academy who put four past them without a reply.

The hosts took a 2-0 lead at halftime thanks to Atuweni Njalima and Alefa Chimbeta’s early goals.

Chimbeta extended the lead to 3-0 midway in the second half to complete her brace before Rose Alufandika’s late strike that sealed the victory for the Thom Nkolongo’s side.

“As Ascent we are very happy for this victory. The defeated us last time but we saw some mistakes from them and now we tried to capitalize on those mistakes and it really worked” said Nkolongo.

For Ntopwa Queens, coach Isaac Osman was quick to accept the defeat.

After that game, it was the turn for MDF Lioness to teach Nyasa Big Bullets Women football lessons.

The female Soldiers showed class against Bullets as they managed to bag 4 goals courtesy of a brace from Laita Magombo and other goals from Fazila Chiyembekezo as well as Ruth Tambala while Bullets’ consolation was scored by Sharon Dzimau.

“This was a revenge, last year they defeated us in Blantyre but I told them let’s come out and revenge, we are at home. It wasn’t easy but luckily we scored first and then add other goals to the score sheet. I thank them and look forward for other games coming ahead of us” said MDF Lioness coach Captain John Kaputa.

Maggie Chombo for Bullets Women said: “we started well but we made a mistake to hand them their first goal, thats where we lost concentration and nothing worked for us from there”

The exit of the two sides now means all Blantyre based sides have been wiped out of the competition as they followed Mighty Queens who lost to Civil Service Women in play offs yesterday.
