Two certified cashier’s of D&S Managers have been sentenced to 30 Months imprisonment for stealing K218 000 gate collections.

Last week, Police in Dedza District arrested two certified cashiers for D&S Event Managers identified as Chikaiko Msinde, 25 and Lawrence Kasiya, 29, for allegedly stealing gate collections during the match involving Dedza Dynamoz Salima Sugar and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers at Dedza Stadium amounting to K218,000.00.

It is alleged that, the duo on the stated date while collecting gate fees were seen hiding the money in their pockets and were caught red handed by a Wanderers fan who saw them sharing the stolen money in the rumness manner.

After their arrest, the two confessed that an official from Super League of Malawi (Sulom) requested them to steal gate collections for them to get lion share.

They pleaded guilty.

During sentencing, Senior Resident Magestrate Clemence Chamwenda observed they the convicts needed a stiffer sentence as deterrent to would be offenders.

Magistrate Chamwenda further observed that growing reports of such acts in the country might affect football development.

“Teams playing in the elite League are suffering financially due to among other factors, theft of gate collections. The act us uncalled for as it derails football development hence the need for stiffer punishment to deter would be offenders,” Said Chamwenda

Both Masinde and Kasiya hails from. katsekaminga village in the area of Traditional Authority Kamenyagwaza in Dedza district.

Meanwhile, Dedza Police Deputy Publicist, Sergeant Cassim Manda said they have instituted an investigation on that unknown official.
