Chief Resident Magistrate Court sitting in Zomba has sentenced former MEC Commissioner, Linda Kunje to 18 months Imprisonment without Hard Labour.

Magistrate Austin Banda has also sentenced Kunje’s former official driver, Jones Tewesa to 15 months Imprisonment without Hard Labour

The sentence will run from 19 August, 2022, the day the two were convicted.

Kunje and Tewesa were convicted in a case the two obstructed President Lazarus Chakwera’s convoy in 2020.

On Tuesday the court heard sentencing submissions from both the state and the defence before it delivers it’s sentence.

Following the conviction, the two were remanded to Zomba maximum prison.

Kunje was one of the Commisoners who presided over the nullified 2019 Presidential Polls.
