Current Super League chart toppers Blue Eagles FC have won a new lease of life following Standard Bank’s decision to become the main sponsor of the Police headquarters side with a deal worth K250 million.
The one-season sponsorship package sees the bank winning naming rights of the club which will now be called Standard Bank Blue Eagles FC during the period of sponsorship.
Fired up by the package, an elated Inspector General of Police Richard Luhanga challenged the Area 30 club to strive for the continent’s elite club champions league under CAF.
“We will do everything to protect this sponsorship. Next season, our target is to play in the CAF Club Champions League,” said Luhanga, who is also Blue Eagles patron.
Speaking during the unveiling, Standard Bank Plc Chief Executive Phillip Madinga said the decision to sponsor the Area 30-based side was driven by the club’s discipline and its strong connection to the community.
“Blue Eagles is more than a football club. It is a symbol of discipline, hard work and resilience — values that are at the core of Standard Bank. We are proud to associate our brand with a team that not only entertains on the pitch but also represents the Malawi Police Service with honour,” said Madinga.
The chief executive, himself an exciting former Flames, University FC and Wanderers FC midfielder said the sponsorship will leverage on the community values that the Police side represents.
“Football unites. We believe football has the power to transform lives and inspire the youth. This K250 million investment is our commitment to growing the game and supporting talent development in Malawi,” he added.
Blue Eagles Chief Administration Officer William Nkhoma described the sponsorship as a game-changer for the club’s ambitions and pledged that the club will manage the funds professionally.
“This investment is in safe and capable hands. We will ensure that the partnership with Standard Bank Plc delivers value for both sides. With Standard Bank behind us, we are confident we will soar higher,” said Nkhoma.
The sponsorship makes Standard Bank Plc one of the biggest sponsors in the domestic league this season.
