Miss Malawi Thandie Chisi has withdrawn from participating in the Miss Universe competition, saying unresolved issues surrounding the Beauty and Beautiful campaign and her outstanding payment from the campaign have significantly affected her confidence.
In a strongly worded email addressed to the organisers, Chisi said she had carefully considered her decision and concluded that she could not continue under the current arrangements.
“After careful consideration, I have decided that I will not be proceeding with participation in the Miss Universe competition,” she said.
Chisi explained that her experiences during her tenure as Miss Malawi had played a major role in her decision.
“This decision follows the experiences I have had during my tenure as Miss Malawi which have significantly affected my confidence in continuing under the current arrangements,” she said.
She specifically pointed to unresolved issues surrounding the Beauty and Beautiful campaign, including her outstanding payment, saying recent developments had reinforced her decision to pull out.
“As the appointed brand ambassador, I am also concerned about the potential impact these matters may have on my professional reputation,” Chisi said.
She added that, considering the circumstances, she did not believe it would be appropriate for her to proceed with preparations for Miss Universe.
“I wish the organisation well in its preparations going forward,” she concluded.
