Youth, Sports and Culture Minister Alfred Gangata says Malawi could host either Chris Brown or Burna Boy as part of an initiative aimed at raising money to support young entrepreneurs.
Writing on his official Facebook page, Gangata said Malawians’ choice narrowed down to the two international artists and expressed hope that one of them will come to Malawi.
“From the three international artists suggested, we are now down to Chris Brown or Burna Boy—and, God willing, one of them will come to Malawi,” he said.
The minister stressed that no Government money will be used to fund the concert.
Instead, he will work with banks, companies and other private-sector partners to finance the event.
Gangata said the concert is also linked to his wider goal of creating 100 to 200 young Malawian billionaires between 2026 and 2030.
He said many young Malawians have good business ideas but struggle to access capital.
The minister estimates that if 40,000 people attend the concert and each pays an average of K150,000, the event could generate K6 billion before expenses.
He said money left after meeting the costs of the event could be used to provide capital to selected young entrepreneurs.
Gangata said similar events and partnerships could be organised in future to continue supporting youth businesses.
He also said an independent professional committee would manage the initiative to ensure transparency.
“This is not just entertainment. It is about turning talent into businesses, businesses into jobs, and young Malawians into wealth creators,” Gangata said.
He added: “Our youth do not lack ideas—they lack opportunities. Let us create those opportunities.”
