A Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) official has told the High Court in Lilongwe that Agnes Katengeza had not changed the beneficiaries on her pension nomination form before her death, leaving Egnat Katengeza as the sole beneficiary.
RBM Pensions Administration Supervisor Yvone Jere told the court that Agnes indicated in September 2023 that she intended to amend the beneficiaries on her nomination form.
However, Jere said Agnes did not make the changes before her death about three weeks later.
As a result, the nomination form remained unchanged, with Egnat listed as the sole beneficiary.
Jere was among the witnesses called by the State in the murder case involving Amos Katengeza and Egnat, who are accused of causing the death of their relative, Agnes.
The State also called a clinical officer who testified about the post-mortem examination conducted on Agnes’ body.
Telecommunications witnesses from Airtel also gave evidence relating to phone and other communication records.
Presiding Judge Bruno Kalemba adjourned the case to tomorrow, when the State is expected to conclude presenting its remaining witnesses.
The State is being led by Director of Criminal Litigation in the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Dzikondianthu Malunda.
Amos is represented by lawyer Kavu Kaphwiti Banda, while Egnat is represented by Khumbo Soko.
Agnes, who worked for the RBM, was killed in September 2023. Her body was later discovered in the boot of her vehicle behind Gateway Mall in Lilongwe.
