High Court sitting in Mzuzu on Wednesday continued hearing the case surrounding disputed Malawi Congress Party (MCP) primary elections for Mzimba Central Constituency with key witnesses giving their testimonies.
Minister of Trade and Industry Vitumbiko Mumba is dragging Malawi Congress party (MCP) and Adamson Kuseri Mkandawire as first and second defendant respectively over primary elections held in May in the constituency.
Justice Justus Kishondo has since set judgement for July 15, 2025.
During re-examination, lawyer for defendants Justin Dzonzi called upon second defendant, Mkandawire to respond to allegations made by Whyton Shaba, chairperson for Mzimba Central Constituency and one of the witnesses in the case.
Shaba had earlier claimed that the second defendant took him to Mzuzu Hotel to submit the electoral college list which is in contention.
In his defense, Mkandawire described the allegations as unjust, both to him and to the party.
“I didn’t take him there to submit any list. He simply asked for a lift because he didn’t have transport, and I was on my way to Lilongwe,” Mkandawire told the court further claiming that the list in question was part of a broader party restructuring process that began years earlier and concluded in 2020.
Khumbo Soko, lawyer representing Mumba, informed the court that they no longer intended to call their final listed witness, Aram Beza.
Justice Kishindo proceeded to notify the court that a ruling will be delivered on July 15, unless any changes arise before then.
