Deputy Inspector General of Police Noel Kayira has reportedly been shot during a rescue operation for abducted British national Nusrat Osman.
Sources have told Nation Online that Kayira is receiving treatment in the emergency department at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre.
Osman, 47, who was abducted in Mount Pleasant last Friday, has also been admitted to the same hospital after being found safe.
A heavy police presence has been reported at the facility, with several police vehicles seen at the hospital.
The circumstances surrounding the rescue operation remain unclear, including where Kayira was shot and what happened during the operation.
Osman is said to be stable and is undergoing medical checks to assess her physical and mental condition following the ordeal.
Police had not yet commented on the reported shooting, the rescue operation or Osman’s recovery at the time of publication.
