The Government of Malawi and the United Republic of Tanzania have emphasised on the need to create awareness on trade protocols and guidelines between the people of the two countries in order to boost trade.
High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to Malawi, Agnes Richard Kayola told journalists at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on Tuesday after she presented her letters of credence to President Dr Lazarus Chakwera that the people of the two countries need to be aware of guidelines to follow when doing trade.
She said it is important that cross border traders know the proper way of doing business in order to address challenges they face.
“As you know people trading between the two countries face challenges on their way, so it is important that we give them proper information on the guidelines to be followed in doing business from one country to another. That will help them know procedures to follow when doing trade and the proper way of handling cargo,” she said.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo said Malawi and Tanzania share common goals and values in as far as trade is concerned hence the need to strengthen such ties.
She encouraged both Malawi and Tanzania to take advantage of opportunities arising from continental bodies such as the Africa Free Continental Trade Area Agreement (AfCTA) in boosting their trade.
“What is required is to strengthen our relations. We need to strengthen trade ties and relations between the two peoples and make sure that we are doing business together on the AfCFTA and make sure that people understand what needs to be done,” she said.
Malawi and Tanzania have long historic relations in terms of business and investments.
