Mtiya Ward by-elections: Ballot papers in tomorrow

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has announced that ballot papers to be used for Mtiya ward by-elections will arrive in the country tomorrow through the Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe.

According to MEC Spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulira, the papers will be taken to Zomba soon after their arrival.

He then asked all the contesting candidates to send their representatives to witness the receipt and dispatch of the ballot papers.

Further, he said that on September 24, MEC will dispatch the ballot papers to constituency tally center where they will be an inspection exercise on September 25 in order to check if they are right materials with right content before the elections the following day

Mwafulirwa said all the preparation are going on well and the commission have not received any complaint for the candidates or other stakeholders.

The official campaign period started on July 27, 2023 and it’s expected to end at 6 am on 24 September 2023.

Mtiya ward became vacant following the death of Councilor Ramsey Kajosolo in June.
