NBS Bank Plc has partnered with Visa to launch the Infinite Visa Card, a super-premium product offering elite travel rewards, concierge services, and lifestyle privileges to its customers.

The bank unveiled the card at a ceremony held on Friday evening in the capital, Lilongwe, describing the launch as a milestone in its journey toward becoming the most admired financial institution in the country.

Speaking at the launch, NBS Bank Chief Executive Officer Temwani Simwaka said becoming the first bank in Malawi to introduce an Infinite Visa Card underscores the institution’s commitment to anticipating customer needs as the country’s economy evolves.

“As Malawi’s economy continues to evolve, as financial institutions we must move beyond transactions and begin supporting something bigger,” Simwaka said. “Our vision is never to be the greatest bank, but to be the most admired bank — a bank known for its innovation, its customer-centricity, and for setting standards that others aspire to and follow. But by then, we will already be several steps ahead.”

Simwaka added that responding to Malawi’s changing economic landscape through innovation is the surest path forward for banks, urging financial institutions to look beyond routine transactions and play a broader role in customers’ lives.

NBS Bank Chief Wholesale Banking Officer Alfred Nhlema described the Infinite Visa Card as a high-end product that sits above the bank’s existing Platinum Card, calling it a card that brings “infinite possibilities” to Malawian customers.

Nhlema explained that the card is tied to the bank’s family banking model, reflecting a shift in strategy from banking individuals to banking entire families.

“Once you open a family account with NBS Bank, you automatically qualify for the Infinite Card, which is unique because, apart from being used for everyday transactions, it comes with other functions and access rights,” Nhlema said. “It is connected to about 1,290 airport lounges across the globe, and it also gives access to fast-track services at designated airports around the world.”

Nhlema said NBS Bank remains committed to continuous innovation and is treating the drive seriously, revealing that the bank is already working on further products in the pipeline.

He called on other financial institutions in Malawi to embrace innovation as a means of bringing greater convenience and efficiency to the country’s banking sector.

The launch of the Infinite Visa Card positions NBS Bank as a pioneer in Malawi’s premium banking segment, targeting high-net-worth families and frequent travellers with a package of benefits that extends well beyond traditional card offerings.
