The Pastor Collins Malama of Thamanda Pentecostal Church has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling his 15-year-old sister in-law.
He was sentenced by Mkukula Senior Resident Magistrate Montfort Misunje.
According to Kanengo Police Spokesperson Gresham Ngwira, the Station Prosecutions Officer, Senior Superintendent Eunice Kafamveka told the court that Malama had been defiling the girl since October 2021 before his arrest in June 2022.
“One day while my sister was away for night duty, he came again to my bedroom and forced himself on me while closing my mouth so that I should not shout.
“He has been doing this almost after every three days and the last one was on June 2, 2022,” he said
Ngwira said when the pastor appeared before magistrate Montfort Misunje, he pleaded not guilty forcing the prosecutor to parade five witnesses leading to his conviction.
“Malama, who maintained his innocence, further alleged that some forces had conspired to have him convicted saying the victim in question is already promiscuous,” Ngwira said.
The convict hails from Chiudza Village in Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa.
