The Southern Region Press Club (SRPC) will this year focus its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on strengthening journalists’ reporting of El Niño and its impact on communities.
The club says the focus is aimed at equipping journalists with practical skills to produce accurate and informative stories and programmes that can help farmers and the general public prepare for the effects of El Niño.
SRPC Organising Chairperson Yohane Symon said the training will be a key part of the AGM, scheduled for October 30 to November 1, 2026, in Mangochi.
“Preparation is at an advanced stage. This year, we want to have a fruitful and impactful interaction by equipping our journalists with practical skills on how to report and produce programmes on El Niño, so that farmers and the general public are prepared and protected,” said Symon.
The club is inviting partners from the environmental protection, agriculture, disaster management and climate justice sectors to provide technical expertise, sponsorship and information sharing.
The Southern Region Press Club, which has more than 100 members, will also conduct its usual AGM business during the three-day gathering.
