Standard Bank Plc has donated MK50 Million towards Malawi Investment Forum to be held at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg, South Africa from 24th-25th May, 2023.
The Forum will be the first of its kind as Malawi will provide such a platform to potential investors in South Africa and beyond and it will be held under the theme “A Prosperous Malawi through Strategic Investment Partnership”.
After presenting the cheque, Standard Bank Plc Chief Executive Officer, Phillip Madinga said “our decision to support the upcoming MIF is well supported by our positioning as a natural choice and partner growth”
“Since last year, Standard Bank has been championing Malawi’s trade agenda because we fully appreciate the critical role of regional and international trade in anchoring our fragile economy” he added
Madinga also said the upcoming Malawi Investment Forum augers very well with Standard Bank’s position to continue playing an active role in financing the country’s trade agenda.
He further said it also provides Standard Bank a platform to put it’s expertise in financing trade and opening international and regional trade corridors at the disposal of key trade partners.
In his remarks Minister of Trade and Industry Simplex Chithyola Banda expressed gratitude to Standard Bank of Malawi for the donation.
Chithyola Banda also took the opportunity to encourage the business community to take advantage of this forum to register and participate effectively.
“I am saying all this because as a country we have the noble responsibility to attain our aspirations through the Malawi 2063 and to achieve this we need to undertake such initiatives as these to attract as many investments as possible into the country. These investors are crucial towards fulfilling our industrialization drive, forex as well as job creation drive. So the private sector involvement cannot be over emphasized” said Chithyola Banda
