Pastors from the Church of Central African Presbytery (CCAP) Blantyre Synod have told opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Peter Mutharika not to be discouraged by opposition or obstacles on his path to the upcoming elections in September.
The Pastors, who have openly said they miss Mutharika’s leadership, are holding a prayer session at the former President’s Page House in Mangochi.
Over 70 pastors, bother serving and retired are in attendance.
Rev. Samson Nseu likened this biblical perseverance to the challenges the country is facing, stressing the need for unwavering faith and determination in times of adversity.
Addressing the current economic hardships, Nseu lamented the soaring maize prices that have forced people to re-evaluate their salaries. He illustrated this crisis by noting that a person earning K150,000 now finds their income equivalent to just one and a half bags of maize.
He argued that such economic difficulties require strong and proven leadership, leadership that, he believes, Mutharika can provide.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary Namalomba said Mutharika, as a devoted believer in God, have consistently welcomed clergy from various faith groups to Page House for prayers.
Namalomba also extended his appreciation to the Blantyre CCAP Synod for its unwavering support Mutharika both during his tenure as President and in the present time, “as the nation looks forward to his leadership once again.”
