Blantyre Water Board (BWB) is facing a court bid to recover K2.96 billion from its accounts over an unpaid judgment debt.
The High Court of Malawi Commercial Division in Lilongwe is handling the matter involving Madalitso Chika trading as Mortech IT Solutions and BWB.
Court documents show that Chika has applied for a third-party debt order against six institutions that may hold money belonging to BWB.
They are National Bank of Malawi, FDH Bank, First Capital Bank, Ecobank Malawi, Airtel Mobile Commerce and TNM Mpamba.
The application follows High Court judgments issued on 20 May 2026 and 2 July 2026, which found BWB liable to pay Chika K2.576 billion in principal and interest.
The documents say the amount remains unpaid.
The court also ordered BWB to pay collection costs amounting to 15 percent of the amount to be collected, calculated at K386.5 million.
This brings the total amount being pursued to K2.963 billion.
The claimant is now asking the court to order the six third parties to pay any money they owe or hold for BWB directly towards settling the judgment debt.
The documents state that this is the first application for a third-party debt order in the case.
The application was filed by lawyer Khumbo Bonzoe Soko of Soko & Co.
