A non-governmental organization, Mpira Mmudzi Mwathu (MMM) has unveiled an ambitious plan to open its third soccer school in the northern city of Mzuzu.
Currently MMM has 2 soccer schools in Lilongwe at Lilongwe Golf Club and in Blantyre at Blantyre Sports Club.
Speaking on the side-lines of an In-house soccer tournament which the organization held at Lilongwe Golf Club over the weekend, MMM Director Chimango Munthali said plans are at advanced stage to open a new soccer school in Mzuzu latest by the end of the year.
“It’s been over 5 years now since we hit the ground running as MMM. We started with Lilongwe and then last year we opened our Blantyre Soccer School and as part of our ongoing expansion drive, I can confidently confirm that next up is Mzuzu”, said Munthali.
According to Munthali over the years MMM has been operational a lot has been achieved hence now focusing on opening a new soccer school in Mzuzu.
“We started very small operating from people’s cars to now owning our own office and a full time secretariat so we keep on growing”, said Munthali.
Meanwhile Football Association of Malawi President Walter Nyamilandu has hailed the impact MMM is making towards the growth of the game of football in the country.
Nyamilandu who was the guest of honor during the In-house tournament said over the years MMM has been able to produce youngsters that have represented the country at international level through the Malawi Schools Sports Association select team.
“I decided to attend this in-house tournament because I attach a great value to the contribution that MMM is making towards growth of the game. Evidence is there as MMM players have proceeded to be part of the Malawi Schools Sports Association national team while others are knocking on the door of the Malawi Under 17 national team”, said Nyamilandu.
The FAM president has since pledged the FA’s supports towards grass root football.
“At FAM we have several initiatives that are targeting grass root football and we are going to continue with those initiatives”, said Nyamilandu.
The tournament which was sponsored by Ebenezer Investments was competed by over 120 MMM kids from 3 to 16 years including the soccer school’s women social football team.
Outstanding kids on the day were awarded with medals, learning materials like exercise books, pens and pencils as well as drinking bottles and Mpira Mmudzi and Ebenezer Investments branded caps.
